This will be an interesting game for fans and tipsters alike because this matchup will provide an MLB consensus pick as the Brewers are heavy favorites in this game. We will take a closer look and see whether the MLB odds are right to be on their side.
These two teams are division rivals and such matches are always filled with a different type of energy and excitement. It will feature a pitching matchup between pitchers who are essentially very good but have struggled mightily this season which is worth remembering because we might see a lot of runs scored so keep an eye on over/under odds.

The Pirates are a mixed bag this early in the season because they do possess a good enough roster but have been plagued by injuries. On their Injury list, they have five players who made the opening day roster. In the beginning, when they had a full squad they were 1st in the MLB. Since then, injuries have taken their toll, pitching became much worse and now they are merely a 500 team.
Even with all of that said, they were never considered a favorite to make the playoffs especially in this division but the regression they experienced since the beginning of the season is nonetheless disappointing. They only won 1of their last 5 games but the majority of their losses came against a cruising Dodgers team which is MLB’s best of the best.
Milwaukee Brewers Form
The Brewers are starting to earn their nicknames as MLB’s most inconsistent team because they simply can’t string a three-game winning streak let alone a bigger one. It’s surprising considering that they are a team which many thought could reach the World Series if things go right, but sadly things haven’t gotten right in many areas of their play. Christian Yelich is doing his part absolutely terrorizing pitchers on a daily basis but his team doesn’t support him.
It’s said that even in this modern era of baseball you can’t win without pitching and that is certainly true for Milwaukee because their pitching staff is good on paper but they are not delivering on the field. That is the main reason why they can’t win multiple games in a row and why they are trailing an arguably weaker team in the Cubs. They won 2 of the last 5 they played which isn’t bad but isn’t great either as the Phillies are certainly the type of teams they will need to beat if they want to make a deep playoff push.
Brewers – Pirates Past Meetings
Even though these teams play in the same division they haven’t played up until now this season, which is a testament to MLB’s scheduling team because that was hard to achieve. Before I digress even further it’s worth saying that last year Pittsburgh won the overall series against the Brewers with 12-7. Now odds favor the Brewers in this one and they probably should as I will elaborate in the next section.
Brewers – Pirates Prediction and Pick
First thing you do when you determine who will win this one is looking at the pitching matchup. This game will have Chacin start for the Brewers (3-6 record with a 4.88 ERA) and Archer for the Pirates (1-5 record 5.75 ERA). As I noted before these pitchers are good but have struggled a lot this season allowing many runs.
Now the MLB odds favor the Brewers because they are the better team and are in a slightly better form so them being favored by the odds as the likely winner isn’t a surprise. Indeed Milwaukee should win this one as they are the better team especially hitting wise. They have more hits, more home runs and the same batting average as Pittsburgh. With all that said don’t discount the Pirates easily. Even if they lose they will go down swinging because they usually managed to get a few runs on the board especially against pitchers that are prone to allowing that to happen (Chacin).
Josh Bell is having a breakout year leading all of MLB in RBI’s so far this season which bodes well for this prediction. PNC Park also can feature quite a bit of win so many balls heading into the ballpark could be carried outside. I mention all of this because this early in the week you might catch some pretty good odds on over/under odds.
So the MLB consensus pick is the Brewers which we established is rightly so but when it comes to over / under I would dare you to take anything over 9,5 because the value is simply too good not to take it. The odds should be as well.
